Default Calls for part numbers

We are getting several phone calls for part numbers or ratios or info

That they can use to buy elsewhere. I’m about ready to say no more to that. What are others doing?

I tell them we can't give out part numbers, period. If questioned why, I tell them that I can't be held liable if they write a number down wrong, or the vendor they are buying from makes a mistake. I offer to try to price match, but I won't sell below cost, unless it's aged and needs to go.

I had a guy that used to call a lot - he was a plumber. One day I called him and asked him to walk me through a plumbing repair, he was livid. I reminded him of that the next time he called for a part number.
